Saw 5 Trailer

So who would have thought the run of Saw movies would last this long. I have to say, though, that each one is more gruesome than the next!

I think Saw IV was absolutely disgusting, but a very cool movie. The autopsy seen? Really necessary? YES.

Here’s a QUICK sneak preview into what you should expect from Saw V, coming out on Halloween.

Terminator Salvation Trailer

Ladies and Gentleman… it’s here. The next film in one of the greatest series ever is in production, set to release in 2009….

Terminator Salvation.

So the premise: John Connor (played by the ever-so-talented Christian Bale) is all grown up, the apocalypse happened, and skynet is wreaking havoc on human life as we know it.

You have to watch this teaser trailer to get a good feeling of how amazingly cool this movie will be. I had my doubts when I heard McG was directing it (Charlies Angels), but the minute Bale and the rest of the all star cast signed up, I flipped my lid. Check out this sweet terminator 4 trailer:

Hellboy 2 The Golden Army Review

Well, I had a chance to check out Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, and I have to say, I was quite impressed! Overall the hype for this movie was well deserved. Normally I wouldn’t give up a good chunk of my Sunday to see a movie like this in the theaters (especially in downtown Chicago), but I did and it was worth it!

Plot:

The overall plot was quite interesting. Without giving too much away, I liked the Lord of the Rings Middle Earth-esque story telling, complete with humans vs. elves (and other fictional beings).

I really enjoyed the character development of Red (Hellboy).. They really went out of their way to make him display more human characteristics, especially when they showed him in his childhood.

At times, the sappy love stories were tiring, but they stopped before I was upset… Nicely done! It doesn’t take too much for me to go off the deep end when it comes to that stuff (see: titanic, the notebook, yuck).

Plot: Rating: ★★★★☆

Action Scenes:

Lot’s of cool monsters in this one. I have to say the scene where Red is fighting the plant monster is just AMAZING. I had no idea what to expect, and it really was incredible. There was a point where I was actually rooting for red to join the other side and not kill the thing, as it was the last of its kind too.

The golden army… WOW. Very well thought out, very cool, and didn’t look over-the-top fake with too much CGI, as a lot of movies do these days. Those things are BURLY.

The Prince had a lot of fast action martial arts techniques that made it pretty cool to watch, kind of like a brute force vs finesse commercial.

Action Scenes: Rating: ★★★★★

Sappy Love Story:

yeah, it was there, and I know I said i wasn’t going to complain, but here I am, complaining. Was it necessary? Not At All.

Did I enjoy it? Nope. If i wanted to see a chick flick, i would have popped in America’s Sweethearts. Shame on you, guillermo del toro.

Sappy Love Story: Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Overall:

Overall, i’d suggest this movie to all, just know that there is the sappy love story before going in (so you’re ready for it.. I wasn’t.)

It was very well written and directed, and I didn’t even notice the longer-than-usual run time!

Be sure to watch Hellboy 1 before going to see #2, so you’ll get the full effect of what GdT was trying to do.

Overall: Overall Rating: ★★★½☆

Max Payne Trailer

As this is the decade for video game movies, we have another one hitting the streets, with some big name actors.

For those unfamiliar, Max Payne was a very popular game about a guy who’s family is killed, so he goes punisher style and takes care of business. A very cool game to play, and looks like its starring none other than Mark Wahlberg, one of my current favorite actors.

No other info is needed, the trailer speaks for itself! Take a look and let me know what you think

New Quarantine Trailer

So those of you who frequent this blog know I love horror movies.. who doesn’t?! Sure horror movies as of late have been slacking a bit (see: hills have eyes 2, etc.) but this movie looks pretty intense..

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Quarantine is based off of a Spanish horror flick that was never released in the US. This version was directed by John Erick Dowdle who firstshowing.net mentions also directed last year’s indie horror The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

For those of you who want a background, this story is about a reporter doing a documentary on a local fire station, and she goes out with them on a routine call. They get to the building, meet police there, and investigate the apartment in question.. that’s when it starts.

This looks quite scary for the big screen, i’m looking forward to seeing it! Take a look at the brand new trailer below!

Equilibrium Vastly Underrated?

So I’ve been at home in MI since Tuesday, and i’m sorry to say i’ve been a bad blogger. So many things to do and people to see!

I did, however, have a chance to stop by Best Buy and pick up Equilibrium on DVD… I love this movie a LOT, and it still is one of my favorite Christian Bale movies.

I can say that the special effects, fighting scenes, and action are all up to par with the Matrix.. Yeah, I said it!

If you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it. I thin i’m going to do a full review on it to help spread the word!

Be back soon readers!

Predator Review - 20 Years Later

 Predator Image

Predator… Arguably one of the best Arnold movies next to T2 in existence. Yeah, I said it, how can you not like this movie?

Let’s just look at the cast… I mean, we have heavy hitters like Schwarzenegger himself, and also Carl Weathers and Jesse "The Body" Ventura (also see: previous governors of Minnesota).

Plot:

The film begins with the arrival of an Army Commando team at a US military outpost somewhere in Central America. After a short briefing, they learn they have to rescue a ‘Cabinet Minister’ who was in a helicopter that was shot down flying over enemy territory. (sounds fishy to begin with… doesn’t it?)

Here’s the catch: they are accompanied by a CIA operative. Even fishier. As they head deep into the jungle; things aren’t as they seem. Almost immediately, they find the desecrated bodies of a US military team (Green Berets) who have been skinned alive in a most atrocious way. I guess you really can’t get skinned alive in a nicer way… so that’s an unnecessary comment.

After that, they head to the enemy camp, but this is where they find out the CIA is using them to get military intel from the bad guys. Arnold is pissed. That’s when it starts happening…

Something is hiding in the jungle, watching them, stalking them. An advanced and powerful alien that hunts only the most badass prey in the universe. They call it the Predator.

He has the acrobatic talents of Kerri Strug, and he can blend into his surroundings like the invisible man Don’t forget about his insanely advanced alien weaponry.

Team member after team member start getting picked off. Basically, everyone dies except Arnold. This is when the governator gets PISSED, and starts fighting back.

It’s a pretty interesting story line, but Obviously the acting is horrendous (see: Arnold, Jesse Ventura). I have to dock it a few points for that fact, but still very solid.

 Plot Rating: ★★★☆☆

Quotable Lines:

For any one that ISN’T aware, Any movie Arnold is in is quotable beyond belief. Heck, that’s the reason half of his audience watch his movies anyway! This movie is one of the CLASSIC Arnold quoteables.

Here are a few examples:

Sergeant Mac Eliot: You’re ghostin’ us, motherfu@%er. I don’t care who you are back in the world, you give away our position one more time, I’ll bleed ya, real quiet. Leave ya here. Got that?

Dutch: [the Predator pulls off his mask] You’re one… ugly motherfu*@er!

Poncho: You’re bleeding, man.
Blain: I ain’t got time to bleed.

Dutch: If it bleeds, we can kill it.

Dutch: [lying on the ground after being hit by Predator shoulder cannon, he motions to Anna] Run! Get to the chopper!

Dutch: Billy, Get Down!!

Quotes Rating: ★★★★½

Gore & Action Factor:

This movie has some SICK scenes.. dudes getting skinned alive, killed left and right… and the bodies. It’s pretty wild. I also have to say the weapons the Predator (I have to capitalize his name, or he gets mad) uses are beyond cool. That shoulder cannon? And the ending scene when he uses his arm band to blow himself up (presumably along with Arnold, but he’s quicker than that). THAT is timeless.

Gore & Action Rating: ★★★★☆

Overall:

This is a timeless guy movie. I honestly can say I could watch this bad boy 2, maybe 3 times in a row in the same sitting. Yeah, that’s how classic it’s become for Action loving guys around the world. The quotes… the plot… its all there.

Ladies, if you haven’t seen it, give it a chance! Even 20 years later, this thing is STILL badass.

Hackney Rubs Elbows With Photo Legend

Well my buddy over at LukeHackney.com recently redesigned one of his friends websites. This just isn’t any friend, however. Luke happens to know Robert Matheu personally.

Who’s Robert Matheu  you ask? A famous music photographer who’s snapped the likes of the Ramones, Iggy Pop, Keith Richards, Johnny Cash and the MC5, and many others.

Take a look at Rob’s site, and click around a bit. You might notice some of his more famous work!
