Let me preface this by saying i’ve been following the Cloverfield viral marketing campaign for 6 months. From the initial rumors on first showing, to the tagruato.jp slusho.jp and 1-18-08.com websites. With that being said…
JJ Abrahms created an incredible piece of work here, everyone. Initially, I had a feeling this would be like your normal monster movie. Monster attacks, single hero avoids death and somehow helps destroy said monster. I was expecting the cheezy CGI special effects that were all the rage in the US remake of godzilla. I didn’t see that at all.
For those of you who don’t know, the movie is shot from a hand camcorder’s perspective. One of the people fighting to stay alive documented the entire thing. While shaky at times, it just adds to the realism.
The monster was Nothing I expected. I won’t ruin it for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, but you’re in for a suprise!
Overall, it was shot extremely well, there were some great action sequences, it wasn’t full of hollywood meetcutes and stupid romances. This was a solid movie, that left me begging for more: how did the monster get there? where did it come from? What happens next? Ahhhhh.

Hey everyone, I’m playing around with some new logo designs and images for the blog, so bear with me while it gets a little dusty in here!
Well, it’s finally time… I’ve been waiting for 6+ months to see JJ Abrahms new monster movie, and 1-18-08 has come and gone. After the initial hoards of first-timers saw and either bashed/praised the movie during opening weekend, its finally my time to go see it. With peace and quiet, and loud monster roars in surround sound. No 10 year old timmy kicking my seat because his best friend tommy ate the last frickin milk-dud. No Johnny on his cell phone. Just me, the movie, and a handful of other fans looking for the same thing.
Being an internet marketer myself, the initial viral marketing campaign for Cloverfield caught my attention. I thought to myself; wow, I thought they had something with Snakes on a Plane, but it proved fruitless. Could this new JJ movie be headed down the same path?
Then it dawned on me… The difference? SOAP had a funny acronym and Samuel L. That’s it. The plot was holier than swiss on rye.
Cloverfield used the perfect amount of traditional tv marketing and online marketing to reach out and create hype. Once that hype was created, they differed from SOAP in the fact that they DELIVERED a great product (or so i’ve read).
I’m excited to see it for myself. I’ll report as soon as I watch it.
Hey Terrelle - Go to OSU! I know you want to be like Steve Slaton, and you’re probably thinking Rich Rodriguez is the best way of attaining that goal… but wouldn’t you want to play for a perennial national championship contender (granted they have lost two years in a row) than a team that lost to Appalachian State?
I know you knocked Michigan State off of your list.. that’s too bad; Izzo was recruiting you for basketball and you could have been on an up and coming football team but a very badass basketball team. At least with OSU over Michigan, you can be on a SOLID football team and a SOLID basketball team. Michigan lost to central michigan in basketball, and some other REALLY crappy teams too.
And before you say it… Grand Valley State, blah blah blah.. Yeah, guess who’s 17-0 right now? That same GVSU team that beat the spartans during an exhibition game. What’s Central Michigan’s record? Exactly.
When Michigan lost to Appy State, they said “So, they could probably beat most of the teams in the big ten”, well same excuse goes for GVSU. They are GOOD for a D2 program. Sound familiar?
Anyway Terrelle, go to OSU. Don’t let Michigan try and fool you; the girls there are ugly as sin, and the campus is a hole.
How in the world does that sound appealing? And if they were the leaders and the best, they wouldnt’ have lost to OSU 4 years in a row. MSU knows its place in the football food chain; we lost to Michigan 6 years in a row but we don’t call our selves the best team in the country. Delusional!
So I couldn’t post after Michigan State scored only 36 points (TOTAL) in their first road game against Iowa Saturday. I was too devastated.
I had to wait until we faced back to back big ten champs Ohio State last night… The outcome you ask? Well, the spartan dawgs got a big W last night, 66-60. I’d like to give Thad Matta and OSU some credit though; the buckeyes came back from a 21 point deficit and made a strong second half run.
I’ve realized that whenever Raymar Morgan gets in early foul trouble, our team is headed for the pits unless Drew Neitzel can man up and lead the team like he did the entire year last year. Problem is, he’s got what we call the Michigan State Senior Slump (Chris Hill, Mo Ager anyone?).
Here’s to hoping Indiana lays a big egg at Minnesota, Tubby Smith has those boys playing lights out!
Two nights ago I was able to catch a showing of National Treasure - Book of Secrets. Let me preface this by saying I was a HUGE fan of the original movie. Nicholas Cage really played into the roll well and it was almost like a modern day Indiana Jones!
The second chapter of this story starts off with Gates and his girlfriend split up, and Riley losing his Ferrari. This added a sense of realism to the mix, because though #1 had a happy ending, it showed that life goes on and not everything is perfect.
Gates and his father are well respected, and while honoring their Gates’ great grandfather for trying to foil Lincoln’s assassination, another scholar provides evidence showing Gates was a co-conspirator.
The story continues on with Gates and crew trying to prove his great grandfathers innocence. How would he do that? Well, by finding the treasure. Obviously.
The cheese factor in this sequel is kicked up a notch just like in a Rachel Ray dish. Let’s just say Gates accomplishes and gets away with ridiculous things in this movie (ie: Breaking into the oval office and the queens chambers at buckingham).
Overall, i’d have to give this movie 3.5 stars due to the unbelievable antics of Gates and the cheeeeese factor.

So I came across this site called SimplyParker.com and I absolutely loved it. I even added them to my blogroll on the right.
These guys have some really funny designs! Plus their site is really easy to navigate. They even have girls shirts (tight fitted ladies shirts) that I can get as gifts for my sister and other lady friends.
The designs are pretty funny and vintage. They have some of my favorite Nickelodeon shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark, Salute Your Shorts, and even some Double Dare shirts! They even have a Bill Nye the Science Guy ladies shirt!! That was my favorite part of science class.
Be sure to take a look at their site at www.SimplyParker.com
About 6 months ago a work friend told me to visit www.woot.com and take a look. What an amazing day that was.
For those of you who are not familiar with Woot, they offer amazing tech deals at usually super discounted rates for members only. Best part: Membership is free!
For example: A brand new i-Trip for your i-Pod… I’ve seen it retail for about $79.99… Woot was able to provide their users with brand new ones for $19.99! What a steal.
They put up a new product every day. One product per day. Once they run out, you’re out of luck.
Once in a while, they’ll have a “woot off”; this is where they take all their overstock items (still really good stuff) and put them up in a one-after-another style. Once they run out of a certain item, they’ll put the next one up right away. These usually last a few days, and the prices are cut even lower during these time periods.
They have also coined a great term for a product they offer: The bag of crap. This is a $1″bag”that you purchase. In this bag, you will receive one item. Sometimes its from the woot off, sometimes its not. Usually you’ll get a handful of items, some great, and some just plain funny. The goal is to try and order 3 bags of crap, and you’ll get a box full of random stuff. Sometimes it can be a brand new nintendo wii (not joking!) or other times it can be a SnacDaddy hot wings tray, haha (I got 3 of them as part of my last Bag of Crap).
These BOCs usually sell out in about 1 minute or less, so be fast!
Oh and did I mention, shipping is only $5 on everything, regardless of location and weight?! Woot!
So I just saw the Louisville Cardinals vs Kentucky Wildcats game… Does Kentucky need an intervention?
What’s going on with one of the most storied programs in College Basketball history?! I was always a fan of Kentucky when Tubby Smith was there, but I think they lost a great coach when he left for the Minnesota Gophers.
Alex Legion was wowed by the cheers in Rupp Arena, and his mom prophesized her son coming home to detroit to play in the NCAAs… What happened there?
Is Billy G the man for the job? More comments as the season goes on.
Looking forward to ex-Kentucky coach Tubby Smith to come to the Breslin Center and take on my Michigan State Spartans tonight at 7PM Central!! GO STATE!
